Jharkhand Schools Celebrate World Earth Day 2024 with Eco-Friendly Activities and Awareness Campaigns

Ranchi/Dhanbad: Educational institutes across the state on Wednesday observed World Earth Day with vibrant activities, blending creativity with a strong message of environmental responsibility.

From cultural programmes and art competitions to eco-friendly workshops, students actively engaged in initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability and respect for nature.Surendranath Centenary School in Ranchi observed the day aligned with this year’s theme, ‘Our Power, Our Planet’. Samita Sinha, school principal said, “World Earth Day activities inspire our students to respect nature and take responsibility for building a greener tomorrow.”At Delhi Public School, creativity took centre stage with the ‘Paint Your Own Canvas’ activity, with students expressing their perspectives through vivid artwork depicting nature, rural life, and pressing global concerns like climate change and deforestation. Sarala Birla Public School too organised a wide range of activities, including painting, slogan writing, an Earth Day quiz, and a special assembly, to mark the day.

Neerja Sahay DAV Public School students participated in a bamboo craft workshop conducted by local artisans, learning to create eco-friendly items such as hand fans, pen stands and decorative baskets. Principal Kiran Yadav said, “Skill-based learning like this is the need of the hour. By adopting such eco-friendly practices, students can contribute positively towards the environment and society.”In Dhanbad, Institution for National Amity and Coalfield Children Classes organised an awareness campaign ‘Vande Mataram, Vande Vasundhara’, aiming to promote global harmony, environmental conservation, and national pride, marking 150 years of the iconic song Vande Mataram.Students from colliery areas participated in a prabhat pheri, carrying clay models of the Earth on their heads, which emerged as a major attraction. The Department of Environmental Science & Engineering at IIT (ISM), Dhanbad in collaboration with Insearch NGO, organised a programme aligned with the global theme “Our Power, Our Planet.”
