Jharkhand Sets Up 43 Checkpoints Ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections to Ensure Security

Ranchi: Jharkhand has set up 43 checkpoints along the interstate border with Bihar ahead of the two-phase assembly election in the neighbouring state, inspector general (operations) Michael Raj said on Tuesday.The state also requested the West Bengal and Odisha govts to create 10 posts along their border with Jharkhand in view of the Ghatshila assembly bypolls in Jharkhand.Raj said 10 districts of Jharkhand share borders with eight districts of Bihar. The assembly polls in bordering districts of Bihar and the Ghatshila bypoll are scheduled on November 11, the second phase of the Bihar election. The first phase Bihar poll is scheduled on November 6.The IG said coordination meetings have been conducted from the chief secretary to district levels in view of the elections.Raj also said the presence of Maoists are limited to the Saranda forest area of West Singhbhum district and in some districts, their numbers are only in groups of two to three persons.On cybercrime, he said as many as 128 cases related to cyber frauds were registered in Jharkhand from January to August and 105 criminals were arrested while 166 SIM cards, 60 ATM cards and 15 passbooks of different banks were seized. As many as 4,281 cases were reported through the cyber helpline number 1930.Raj added that a total of pending criminal cases in the state fell from 46,808 in July to 45,644 in August and 4,926 cases were registered while 6,090 were disposed of.
