The death of a 24-year-old woman after falling from a running train in Jharkhand was not an accident as was initially suspected, but a well-planned murder by her husband, police said.

The body of Juhi Devi was found near Tori-Chetar station in Latehar district on Thursday (June 14, 2025), they said.

Her husband, Mahadev Singh, lodged a report at the Dhurki police station in Garwah, his home district, claiming that his wife had fallen from a train by accident.

But during interrogation, he broke down and admitted to pushing his wife from the running train, leading to her death, said Randhir Singh, the officer-in-charge of the Chandwa police station.

Mahadev told the investigators that a family dispute was the reason for the murder.

He was arrested and remanded to judicial custody by a court on Friday.
