Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return on Tuesday, the studio announced, following a week-long suspension. In a statement, Disney confirmed the decision to bring back the show, noting the temporary pause was meant to avoid escalating an already volatile national moment.
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” the company said, as reported by The Wrap. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
About the suspension
Kimmel was suspended on Sept. 17 after controversial remarks made in his Sept. 15 monologue. According to sources, the host had planned to address the backlash on-air that week, but executives decided his remarks could further inflame tensions among conservative audiences. However, the decision sparked a firestorm with over 400 Hollywood celebrities, including actors, writers, and directors signed an open letter condemning the move as 'censorship'.

The list of signatories included high-profile names such as Robert De Niro, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Kerry Washington, Kevin Bacon, Billy Crystal, and Nathan Lane. Celebrities, including Selena Gomez and Molly Ringwald also joined in, while some union members and writers called for boycotts of various OTT platforms in protest.According to reports, the letter stated, “Regardless of our political affiliation, or whether we engage in politics or not, we all love our country. We also share the belief that our voices should never be silenced by those in power — because if it happens to one of us, it happens to all of us.”“This is the moment to defend free speech across our nation. We encourage all Americans to join us, along with the ACLU, in the fight to defend and preserve our constitutionally protected rights,” the letter concludes.
