The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) has formally joined the capacity building mission of the Union Government to evolve a citizen-centric public delivery service across the country.
Jipmer has set up a Capacity Building Unit (CBU) to run the ‘Mission Karmayogi’ initiative, in alignment with the directives of the Capacity Building Commission (CBC) and the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, said a press note from Ravi Kumar Chittoria, faculty in-charge, CBU Jipmer.
Stuti Verma, consultant, Capacity Building, Training Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, who mentored the process of establishing the CBU said the objectives of the mission were to transform the capacity and mindset of public servants by promoting a citizen-centric, accountable, and service-oriented workforce, rooted in Indian values.
Ms. Stuti added that the CBC at its core, envisions a shift from a rule-based to a role-based approach in training and performance, ensuring that public service delivery becomes more efficient, effective, and empathetic.
Vir Singh Negi, Director, Jipmer said that the Jipmer CBU has been set up with the vision to instill a culture of excellence and selfless service among employees. It has been working towards fostering a professional environment where continuous learning, personal development, and leadership were an integral part. Training initiatives under the CBU have been designed to enhance not only professional competence but also personal well-being, including stress management and innovative, solution-driven thinking.
As part of the initiative, a three-day workshop to groom 32 master trainers was led by S. Rangabashiam, Deputy Director (Administration), Kusa Kumar Shaha, Dean (Karaikal), and Madhusudhanan Ponnusamy, Associate Dean (Academic), who had undergone an intensive Lead Trainer Programme in Delhi.
These master trainers will, in turn, propagate the ethos across Jipmer’s three campuses and seek to transform employees to purpose-driven professionals, the press note said.
Dr. Negi added that through the structured implementation of ‘Mission Karmayogi’, Jipmer seeks to further augment its institutional ethos of professionalism, empathy, and accountability. The capacity building initiatives are envisioned to enhance service delivery by fostering a workforce that not only upholds clinical excellence but also demonstrates a high degree of sensitivity and responsiveness in patient care.
