JMI was awarded for its remarkable efforts towards promoting a healthy, green, and vehicle-free campus
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has been conferred the prestigious Fit India – Gold FERN Recognition Award by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, in recognition of its remarkable efforts towards promoting a healthy, green, and vehicle-free campus and advancing the objectives of the Fit India Movement.Under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, JMI, Prof. Mazhar Asif, and the Registrar, JMI, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, the university has undertaken several innovative initiatives to promote the 'Fit India Movement'. Their leadership has fostered a strong cycling culture across the University community, encouraging the adoption of a healthier lifestyle while contributing significantly to the creation of a pollution-free and environmentally friendly campus.The award was presented by the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya. Dr. Vikas Sitaramji Nagrale, University Librarian, JMI, was nominated by the university to receive the award on behalf of the institution. JMI administration has taken several effective measures to transform the campus into a vehicle-free, clean, and eco-friendly environment. Well-organized parking facilities have been developed for all vehicle users, including female students, while special emphasis has been placed on creating and maintaining a green campus.
As a result of these sustained efforts, Jamia Millia Islamia has emerged as a model institution in promoting healthy living, environmental conservation, and sustainable development. The University has dedicated this achievement to the faculty members, staff, and students, describing it as a matter of immense pride for the entire Jamia community.
