Jo Joseph, interventional cardiologist who was the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate in the Thrikkakara by-election, took a jibe at Congress leader K. Muraleedharan on Friday (May 30, 2025) for making a veiled remark about his unsuccessful electoral contest.
Mr. Muraleedharan said on Thursday (May 29, 2025) that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] was struggling to find a candidate for the Nilambur bypoll and quoted reports suggesting that it was planning to field a doctor as an independent candidate. He added that the CPI(M)’s similar attempt at Thrikkakara had failed, leaving the LDF’s “doctor candidate” in the lurch.
In a social media post, Dr. Joseph said that Mr. Muraleedharan had lost seven electoral contests, four Lok Sabha elections and three Assembly elections, while he had lost only once. “I was pained by your last electoral defeat in the Thrissur Lok Sabha election, as you finished only third while helping the Bharatiya Janata Party win the seat. The CPI(M) has not left me in the lurch as I continue to perform various roles in the district,” he added.
