A 34-year-old woman, grappling with job loss and divorce-related stress, drove her car onto railway tracks near Shankarpally in a suspected suicide attempt, disrupting train services for an hour

HYDERABAD: A 34-year-old mentally disturbed woman who drove her car onto a railway track near Shankarpally in an apparent suicide attempt has been admitted to the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Erragadda in Hyderabad.

The woman, who had lost her job at a Gachibowli-based MNC two months ago and had recently gone through a divorce, was reportedly under severe mental and financial stress, according to her parents who arrived from Lucknow on Thursday. The woman drove on the tracks for nearly 7 km between Nagulapally and Shankarpally, forcing railway officials to halt train movement for an hour. Government railway police, acting on instructions from SP Chandana Deepthi, shifted her to Osmania General Hospital for a check-up and then to IMH, Erragadda

A case was registered against her under various sections of the BNS and Railway Act. She was also served a notice under Section 35 of the BNSS, requiring her to appear before the investigating officer post-discharge.Meanwhile, Shankarpally police booked her separately for hurling stones at constables during her detention. They said a notice will be served to her at the hospital.
