Job loss, divorce, distress: Lucknow woman who drove car on railway tracks in Hyderabad sent to Institute of Mental Health (IMH); booked

HYDERABAD: A 34-year-old mentally disturbed woman who drove her car onto a railway track near Shankarpally in an apparent suicide attempt has been admitted to the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Erragadda in Hyderabad.

The woman, who had lost her job at a Gachibowli-based MNC two months ago and had recently gone through a divorce, was reportedly under severe mental and financial stress, according to her parents who arrived from Lucknow on Thursday. The woman drove on the tracks for nearly 7 km between Nagulapally and Shankarpally, forcing railway officials to halt train movement for an hour. A case was registered against her under various sections of the BNS and Railway Act. She was also served a notice under Section 35 of the BNSS, requiring her to appear before the investigating officer post-discharge.Meanwhile, Shankarpally police booked her separately for hurling stones at constables during her detention. They said a notice will be served to her at the hospital.
