Could Anfield witness the ever-enigmatic Jurgen Klopp by the sidelines again? Well, it may just be possible.
Klopp left Anfield after nine years at the end of the 2023/24 season, having explained when he announced his decision earlier in the campaign that he was “running out of energy".
But, the former Reds has not closed the door on a future return to Liverpool, saying on the Diary of a CEO podcast that it’s “theoretically possible."
“I said I will never coach a different team in England, so that means, if [I did return], then it’s Liverpool," the former Reds manager explained. Klopp left Anfield at the end of the 2023/24 season after nine years, citing that he was “running out of energy."
Currently global head of soccer at Red Bull, Klopp says he loves his work but isn’t missing the grind of matchdays and press conferences. “I don’t miss coaching. I don’t. I do coach but it’s just different, it’s not players. I don’t want to die in the dressing room," he said.
Remembering Jota
Klopp spoke emotionally about Diogo Jota, the Portugal international he signed in 2020, who tragically died in a car crash with his brother in July.
“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? It’s not about the player himself, it’s the guy he was," Klopp said. “I can’t imagine the dressing room without him. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it as an excuse, but dealing with that on a personal level is impossible."
The former Reds boss highlighted Jota’s presence as “omnipresent" in the dressing room and admitted the loss continues to affect the squad.
Looking to the Future
At 58, Klopp is open to seeing where life takes him. “I could make a decision in a few years… thank God I do not have to do that [today], I can just see what the future brings," he said, leaving fans with hope that the legend of Anfield may one day return.
