Tripura High Court Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh was transferred and appointed as Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court on Monday. From the Telangana High Court, Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul was transferred as a judge of the Calcutta High Court and Justice T Vinod Kumar to the Madras High Court.
Born on July 7, 1965, Justice Singh holds a BA Honours degree and an LLB degree from the University of Delhi. He enrolled as an advocate in 1990 and practised at the Patna High Court from 1990 to 2000. After the Jharkhand High Court was established, he practised there from 2001 until his elevation as a judge.
He was appointed as an additional judge of the Jharkhand High Court on January 24, 2012, and confirmed as permanent judge on January 16, 2014. He also held the post of the executive chairman of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority from April 2021.
He was the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court from December 20, 2022, to February 19, 2023. On April 17, 2023, he took the oath as the eighth Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
In May 2025, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his transfer to the Telangana High Court as its Chief Justice, and this transfer was confirmed on July 14.
Justice Singh hails from a family with a judicial background. His maternal great-grandfather, the late B P Sinha, was the sixth Chief Justice of India.
