K.C. Venugopal, MP, has sent a letter to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw demanding the development of the Oachira railway station in Kollam.
In the letter, Mr. Venugopal urged the Railway Minister to take steps to renovate Oachira railway station, allow stoppages for long-distance trains and upgrade the station to Non-Suburban Group (NSG)-4 category.
“Oachira is an important transport hub connecting Alappuzha and Kollam districts. Situated close to National Highway 66, Oachira railway station serves as a crucial transit point for both road and rail passengers. The region also reflects cultural and spiritual diversity as well as religious harmony, being home to the Oachira Temple, Amritanandamayi Math (Amritapuri) and Oachira Juma Masjid. Apart from tourists, the development of Oachira railway station is vital for workers and commuters from sectors such as coir and fisheries,” Mr. Venugopal said.
The Alappuzha MP urged that the basic facilities at Oachira station, which is relied upon by numerous students and government and private sector employees travelling to cities such as Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, be improved without delay. He also sought the Railway Minister’s urgent intervention for platform renovation, enhancement of public amenities, beautification, and the provision of stoppages for long-distance trains. .
