The employment generation efforts in Kadapa have got a shot in the arm with the government contemplating setting up the first-ever Information Technology (IT) Park in the backward district, said Kadapa MLA and Government Whip Reddeppagari Madhavi Reddy

In a representation to the Department of IT, Electronics and Communications, Ms. Madhavi sought funds for the IT Park. She said that the TDP-led NDA government has given equal priority to the Rayalaseema region, despite the decision to set up the Google Data Centre in Visakhapatnam. This, she emphasised, reflects the government’s commitment to decentralising development and ensuring fair distribution of skilled employment opportunities.

Kadapa boasts of proximity to Bengaluru, she said, adding that several qualified youth from the district are employed at Karnataka’s capital city, but by establishing an IT Park here, the government is trying to retain local talent and prevent migration.

The district administration has also identified a land measuring 10 acres near Rajiv Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) super specialty hospital here for establishing the IT Park, she said, adding, “land parcel is expected to be alienated to Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) soon.”

Once the funds are sanctioned and the necessary infrastructure is created, IT firms can venture into Kadapa. “We are keen on creating a vibrant ecosystem to encourage IT and innovation in Kadapa,” Ms. Reddy told The Hindu.

She also said that as part of the government’s ambitious plan to set up MSME Parks in every constituency, the district administration has started creating the necessary infrastructure.

In Jammalamadugu Constituency, industrial infrastructure was developed on 20 out of the 98 acres allotted at T. Sunkesula near Yerraguntla town. Similarly, 20 acres has been earmarked in Kopparthi of Kamalapuram Constituency.

An industrial estate is being carved out in 25 acres at Gullamadugu area of Pulivendula Constituency, while a 60-acre park is getting ready at Gopavaram in Badvel. A 41-acre site has already been marked as MSME Park at Nandyalampeta village in Mydukur, she added.
