Fishermen released from Sri Lankan jail with YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at the party office at Tadepalli on Tuesday.

The fishermen from Kakinada, who were released recently after being jailed in Sri Lanka for 54 days, met YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday at the party’s central office.

The fishermen had reportedly gone to Kanyakumari to purchase a boat and, while returning with it, inadvertently entered the Sri Lankan waters. Though there were no fish in their boat at that time, they were taken into custody by the Sri Lankan Coast Guard and later sent to jail by a local court.

The matter had come to the notice of former Kakinada Rural MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy, who reportedly coordinated with the local authorities and communicated with Sri Lankan officials. His efforts eventually led to the release of the fishermen.

Expressing their gratitude to Mr. Chandrasekhar Reddy, the fishermen, who included Pantada Brahmanandam and P. Srinivas, met Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Former Ministers K. Kannababu and D. Raja were among others present.
