Kala Academy western music dept proposed for S Goa

Porvorim: Govt has confirmed that the proposal to set up the South Goa branch of the Kala Academy’s department of western music is under consideration.In response to an unstarred question by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Lourenco, the minister for art and culture, Pramod Sawant, acknowledged the lack of such a facility in South Goa and its impact on aspiring musicians being forced to travel to Panaji.

Efforts are ongoing to identify suitable land or premises for the new branch.“Specific timelines cannot be provided at this juncture; however, all possible efforts are being taken by this department,” Sawant said in his replies. “It is contemplated to make an alternate arrangement for students from South in the interim,” he said.Responding to an unstarred question by Velim MLA Cruz Silva, Sawant addressed the status of shifting the Kala Academy College of Theatre Arts back to the Kala Academy Panaji campus from Rajiv Kala Mandir, Ponda. “The matter will be placed before the general council for necessary decision,” he said.
