The Tamil Nadu government has decided to relocate the statue of late actor ‘Kalaivanar’ N.S. Krishnan from Gopathi Narayanaswami Chetty Road to the campus on Wallajah Road, which houses the Kalaivanar Arangam.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s decision to relocate the statue followed representations from the family of the actor.

Initial installation

After the actor died in August 1957, his statue was installed on G.N. Chetty Road-Thirumalai Pillai Road junction in January 1969, when C.N. Annadurai was the Chief Minister.

In 2008, when a flyover was constructed, the statue was moved to the current location at the same junction.

According to an official release, the statue would soon be safely relocated to Kalaivanar Arangam campus that is under the control of the Department of Information and Public Relations.
