'Kamal Haasan films will be banned in Karnataka': Minister seeks actor's apology over Kannada remark

Karnataka’s Minister for Kannada and Culture, Shivaraj Tangadagi, has taken a firm stand against actor Kamal Haasan after his controversial comment that ‘Kannada was born out of Tamil.’ Tangadagi made it clear that if Kamal Haasan does not publicly apologise for his remarks, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has decided to ban the release of his upcoming film ‘Thug Life’ in the state.KFCC Praised for Decisive ActionAs per a PTI report, speaking to the media in Bengaluru, Tangadagi praised the KFCC for their quick decision. He said no one, no matter how famous, will be allowed to disrespect the Kannada language, culture, or the people of Karnataka. The minister emphasised that the government strongly supports the Kannada community and will not tolerate any comments against the language or Kannadigas.

After that, the film chamber of commerce also took a good decision and held a press meet yesterday saying that if he doesn’t apologise in two days, his film will be banned. I extend my compliments to the film chamber of commerce as the Minister for Kannada and Culture.”

Appeal to Senior Actors to MediateThe minister also said he had spoken to Kannada superstar Shivarajkumar, asking him to use his influence as a senior actor to speak with Kamal Haasan and help sort out the issue. He said, “We cannot tolerate it. Let Shivarajkumar or another senior actor speak to him.”Kamal Haasan Stands Firm

Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan remained firm on his stance. He said he believes in law and justice and that his love for Karnataka is genuine. He refused to apologise unless proven wrong and mentioned that he has faced threats in the past.
