Actor Kamalinee Mukherjee has been away from the film industry for more than a decade now. Recently, during a podcast, the actor opened up about why she chose to step back from Telugu films after her last outing in 'Govindudu Andarivadele', which starred Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal.Having a conversation on the D-Talks podcast, revealed that though the experience of shooting the film was "amazing", she was left "hurt" by how her character was eventually portrayed on screen.
Not comfortable with how the role turned out
"Not because of the crew. All my co-actors and the people on set were amazing and supportive. But I wasn't very comfortable with how my role turned out. It wasn’t contentious or a fight. I just stepped back from Telugu films for a while because I felt hurt," she shared.
Role not impactful enough
She also explained that these situations occur in filmmaking, where a scene may look good while shooting it, however it sometimes loses its impact in the final cut. "Sometimes you think this is your scene and it feels like the best thing. Then when you go back and watch, the director realises it didn't come out the way you did or it doesn't create the impact it's supposed to. We are not made aware of those things. The way I felt was very personal, and that hurt me.
That's why I thought I should step back from Telugu films and maybe try other languages," she added.Kamalinee also shared that she holds no grudges against anyone. She made her Telugu debut with Sekhar Kammula's 'Anand' in 2004 and then went on to star in memorable films like 'Style', 'Godavari', and 'Happy Days'. She also made her Tamil debut with 'Kadhalna Summa Illai', a remake of 'Gamyam', and she entered Malayalam cinema with Kutty 'Sranku'.
