NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old law student suffered severe injuries when a pharmacy owner and three others attacked him following an argument over medicine prices in Kanpur's Rawatpur area on Saturday night.
The student's stomach was split open, two fingers were chopped off, and he sustained head injuries during the violent assault.The incident occurred around 9 pm when Abhijeet Singh Chandel, a first-year LLB student from Keshavpuram, visited a nearby pharmacy. An argument with shop owner Amar Singh Chauhan over medicine prices escalated into violence.Chauhan, along with his brother Vijay Singh and two associates, Prince Srivastava and Nikhil Tiwari, attacked Chandel with a chopper.
The assault left him critically injured on the road before locals came to his aid.The victim's family had to tie his intestines with cloth before rushing him to various hospitals. Four hospitals refused to admit him due to his critical condition, according to an anonymous official.Chandel was finally admitted to Regency Hospital, where doctors performed a two-hour surgery. He received 14 stitches on his head, confirmed Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalyanpur) Ranjeet Kumar.
"Instead of arresting those behind the murderous attack, police booked my son, who is fighting for his life," said the victim's mother, Neelam Singh Chandel. She alleged that the accused were "well connected with police" and managed to file a false extortion case against her and her injured son the same night.Police have arrested three suspects - Amar Singh Chauhan, Vijay Singh, and Nikhil Tiwari - on charges of attempted murder.
The fourth accused, Prince Srivastava, remains at large.ACP Kumar acknowledged that an extortion FIR was initially registered against Chandel based on Chauhan's complaint. However, a fresh case was filed after the truth about the brutal assault came to light.Authorities are continuing their search for the fourth accused, Prince Srivastava.
