A honey trap case involving a husband-and-wife duo has triggered widespread discussion across Telangana, with preliminary investigation indicating the involvement of several political figures and prominent businessmen from Karimnagar district. According to police sources, the prime accused, Lalitha, allegedly used her official Instagram account to chat with and make video calls to victims. Investigators estimate that nearly 100 individuals may have been targeted, most of them businessmen and political figures. (News18 Telugu)

The investigation has revealed that not only politicians and businessmen but also several young people fell victim to the alleged honey trap. Evidence collected so far suggests that large sums of money were transferred to the accused over a period of time. (News18 Telugu)

Police sources further stated that a resident of Karimnagar town was particularly close to the accused couple. During this period, Lalitha allegedly exploited the individual’s vulnerability and extracted money from him. The victim reportedly paid the couple’s apartment loan instalments and car EMIs, with the total amount allegedly running into Rs 14 lakh. After realising that he had been cheated, the victim approached the police, leading to the exposure of the entire racket. (News18 Telugu)

After being presented in court, they were given 14 days of remand and sent to jail. The accused couple is from Mancherial district and they have a son and a daughter. For some time, they have been living in Karimnagar and carrying out this activity. The couple told the police that they chose this path because their business suffered losses. (News18 Telugu)

The accused couple was subsequently arrested and produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days. Police said the duo hails from Mancherial district and has two children, a son and a daughter. They had been residing in Karimnagar for some time while allegedly carrying out the operation. Meanwhile, political circles are abuzz with speculation, as the name of an opposition party MLA has surfaced repeatedly in connection with the case.
