1.4 crore households covered; Bengaluru lags at 42%

BENGALURU: With just a day left for the door-to-door phase of Karnataka's caste-based socio-educational survey to conclude, the backward classes commission Thursday said the exercise has achieved full coverage across all districts except Bengaluru city, where progress stands at 42.3%.Backward classes minister Shivaraj Tangadagi ruled out extending the Oct 31 deadline for field enumeration, but announced an extension of the online self-declaration deadline till Nov 10 to allow more people to participate through the official portal: https://kscbcselfdeclaration.karnataka.gov.inThere are several factors for Bengaluru city to achieve less progress, including several residents participating in the survey at their native places outside the city.

And the Unique Household IDs (UHIDs) have been generated based on the number of electricity meters. Some have multiple meters for their houses in the city. If we consider all these factors, the survey in Bengaluru city is also successful,” claimed Tangadagi.

He cited his own case as an example to defend why it is lagging in Bengaluru. “I own a house at Dollars Colony in the city and also reside at the govt-allotted house.

However, I did not participate in the survey in the city as I had already participated at my native Karatagi in Koppal district,” he said. Not extending the caste survey: TangadagiTangadagi said enumerators have covered over 1.4 crore households and reached more than 5.5 crore peopleacross the state, excluding Bengaluru city.“We will not extend the deadline for the door-to-door survey. We have time till Friday evening to complete the survey and complete details about it will be shared later,” he added. The ongoing survey covers all backward classes, other castes, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes in Karnataka. It is considered one of the most comprehensive data exercises on caste and socio-economic status undertaken by the state.
