The State government has decided to rename four public universities in the State after 12th-century social reformer Basaveshwara, Haridasa saint and philosopher Kanakadasa, Maharaja of Mysore Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, and former Chief Minister Devraj Urs.

In a note to the Chief Secretary, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed to place the subject before the next Cabinet.

“Already, we have renamed some of the public universities after Maharshi Valmiki, Rani Chennamma, Akka Mahadevi, Ganga Bai Hangal, and former Prime Ministers like Rajiv Gandhi and Manmohan Singh. Now there is a need to rename some more universities after social reformers and others,” he added.
