Karnataka Man Posts Birthday Wish On Instagram With Ex-Girlfriend’s Photo, Then Murdered

Police arrested four people in connection with the case, including the woman’s brother and fiance. 

Police have registered a case under Sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace) and 103(1) (murder).

A 21-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru district after he uploaded a birthday wish on Instagram and WhatsApp using photographs of his former girlfriend, whose wedding was scheduled to another man, police said.

The victim, identified as Manjunath, was a resident of Tarikere taluk. Police arrested four people in connection with the case, including the woman’s brother and fiance. According to the police, the main accused are the woman’s brother Kiran, her fiance Venu and two others identified as Appu and Manu, all residents of Tarikere town.

Investigators said Kiran called Manjunath on Wednesday evening and asked him to meet near an underpass road. As per the first information report (FIR), around 7.45 pm, Venu confronted Manjunath over the birthday wish post that used the woman’s photographs. Police said Venu told Manjunath that if he intended to marry the woman, he should approach her family. Manjunath allegedly responded that he had no intention of marrying her.

Following the exchange, Kiran allegedly attacked Manjunath with a knife, accusing him of using his sister’s photographs on social media. Manjunath was stabbed multiple times before the accused fled the scene, police said.

He was rushed to the Tarikere government hospital and later referred to a hospital in Shivamogga for further treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have registered a case under Sections 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace) and 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and taken all four accused into custody.

“We will take them to police custody for further probe," a police officer said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
