In view of the mass Ganesha idol immersion programme at Nagamangala in Mandya district on Thursday, September 4, Deputy Commissioner Kumar on Wednesday directed officials to remain vigilant and ensure that no untoward incident takes place during the event.
Presiding over a meeting with the organisers of idol installation committees and other officials at the Pandavapura Deputy Superintendent of Police’s office, Mr. Kumar said that arrangements have been made for the immersion of about 11 Ganesha idols on Thursday.
He added that adequate security had been put in place along the procession routes, and organisers were asked to follow the instructions issued by the district administration and the police. Police personnel were already deployed for bandobust, and the public must extend full cooperation, the Deputy Commissioner said.
The police have increased surveillance at sensitive areas in the town, and any attempt to disrupt communal harmony, hurt religious sentiments, or incite clashes will be dealt with strictly under the law, he warned.
“The Ganesha festival is meant to bring well-being to the society. Community leaders, voluntary organisations, and the general public should remain alert and extend cooperation to the district administration to prevent any untoward incidents,” Mr. Kumar added.
As the town witnessed clashes during last year’s idol immersion, the district administration and police had taken adequate precautionary measures for this year’s immersion programme on Thursday, he stated.
Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi, Deputy Superintendent of Police D. Chaluvaraju, tahsildar Adarsh, Circle Police Inspector Niranjan, and other officials were present.
