Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna inspected the site near Nanjangud railway station where a road over bridge (ROB) will be constructed by the Indian Railways, and said that it will eliminate traffic bottleneck on the highway.
The Minister, who inspected the site on Thursday, said that the ROB is in lieu of Level Crossing gate No. 20 and marks a significant step towards easing traffic congestion and improving transit efficiency. It is part of a larger plan to eliminate all level-crossing gates to enhance safety, he added.
Sanctioned by Indian Railways, the project will be taken up at a cost of ₹49.10 crore, and underscores the Centre’s commitment to developing modern and sustainable transport infrastructure, said the Minister.
According to the railway authorities, the ROB will serve as a vital link between Nanjangud town and Chamarajanagar, strengthen regional connectivity, and provide smoother access for both daily commuters and long-distance passengers.
Once completed, the ROB will eliminate a critical bottleneck, enhance safety, reduce travel delays, and contribute meaningfully to the economic and social development of the region, the authorities added.
The Minister was accompanied by Sunil Bose, MP, Chamarajanagar; T.S. Srivathsa, MLA, Krishnaraja; Darshan Dhruvanarayana, MLA, Nanjangud; K. Vivekananda, MLC; Pratap Simha, former MP; and senior officials of the railways.
