Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced the ambitious development of five world-class Aerospace & Defence Parks to further solidify the state’s dominant position as India’s A&D hub.

This major infrastructure push is designed to attract massive investments and create a high-tech ecosystem for both domestic and global industry players.

Strategic Locations and Plug-and-Play Facilities

The five parks are strategically located not just in the established hubs of Bengaluru and Mysuru, but also in emerging industrial centres: Belagavi, Tumakuru, and Chamarajanagar. This decentralised approach aims to foster balanced regional industrialisation.

A key feature of these new parks will be “plug-and-play" facilities. This innovative infrastructure model is intended to drastically reduce the setup time required for new industries, offering immediate access to essential utilities, pre-built common testing centres, and simulation labs. This streamlined process is a significant incentive for both large corporations and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Economic Impact and Context

Karnataka already contributes nearly 65% to India’s aerospace and defence sector, hosts major public sector units like HAL and ISRO, and is home to over 2,000 specialised SMEs and R&D centres for global giants like Boeing and Airbus. The state is leveraging this mature ecosystem to drive future growth.

The government has set an aggressive target: to attract Rs 45,000 crore in investments and generate approximately 60,000 skilled jobs in the A&D sector over the next five years.

This announcement was made at the inauguration of the Collins India Operations Centre in the existing KIADB Aerospace Park in Devanahalli, a facility that itself represents a $25 million investment and is expected to create over 2,000 skilled jobs. The state’s new industrial policy places a strong emphasis on high-tech sectors, positioning these five new parks as a cornerstone of the state’s long-term economic vision and a direct contribution to the national Make in India mission.
