In a shocking and horrific incident, a Sanskrit teacher at Sri Guru Tippeswamy Temple’s residential Veda school in Karnataka thrashed and kicked a student for using a phone during the class, a video of which has gone viral on social media platforms.

As per the viral footage, the accused teacher, identified as Veeresh Hiremath, was seen pinning the child to the ground and repeatedly kicking him, reportedly after the nine-year-old student, Tarun, reportedly used a phone to contact his grandmother.

The incident reportedly left the boy injured, yet the teacher continued to assault him.

The video prompted immediate public backlash and swift intervention by authorities. As per media reports, the temple’s executive officer, Gangadharappa, lodged a formal complaint, leading Nayakanahatti Police to register a case. However, Hiremath reportedly went missing shortly after the complaint was filed, and police have launched a manhunt to nab him.

The tehsildar visited the spot and took stock of the situation. Some parents also protested near the school, demanding action against the teacher.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Minister for Women and Child Welfare, Laxmi Hebbalkar, assured that stringent measures will be taken against the teacher.

“I have just learnt about this deeply disturbing incident from Nayakanahatti, where a school student was subjected to brutal assault by a teacher. No one should ever be treated in such a manner, especially not children. I will personally look into this case and ensure that strict action is taken against the person found guilty. I have also directed the officials of my department to submit a detailed report on the incident at the earliest," she said.

Earlier today, a similar incident came into limelight where a 9-year-old Class 5 student at St. Mary’s Public School in Sunkadakatte, Bengaluru, was allegedly assaulted by the principal and two teachers with a PVC pipe and locked in a room for being absent for two days.

The incident, which reportedly caused both physical and mental trauma, occurred on October 14. The boy’s mother, Divya Shankar, filed a complaint the next day, leading to an FIR under the JJ Act, Section 118 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), and Section 315 (criminal intimidation).
