History-sheeter ‘Karukka’ Vinoth, who was convicted and sentenced by the Special Court for NIA cases in Poonamallee on Wednesday (November 12, 2025) to 10 years of imprisonment for hurling a petrol bomb at the Raj Bhavan gate in 2023, attempted to hurl a chappal at the judge when he was produced before the Sixth Additional Sessions Court on the Madras High Court campus on Thursday (November 13).
On Wednesday, the Special Court for National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases in Poonamallee, Chennai, convicted Vinoth for his involvement in the petrol bomb attack on Raj Bhavan Gate-I on October 25, 2023, and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
On Thursday morning, he was escorted from the Central Prison to attend trial proceedings at the Sixth Additional Sessions Court in connection with another case registered against him for his involvement in a similar attack on a Tasmac outlet in T. Nagar.
While waiting in the court, which is presided over by Sixth Additional Sessions Judge Pandiarajan, Vinoth suddenly shouted that he had been given a harsher punishment in the Raj Bhavan case and attempted to hurl his chappal at the judge. Police personnel quickly overpowered him and removed him from the courtroom.
The judge ordered that the accused be produced in future hearings via video conference.
