'Karuppar Nagaram': Jai and Aishwarya Rajesh's long-pending film moves next stage; Gopi Nainar's directorial to release soon - Report

Following a prolonged period, director Gopi Nainar's 'Karuppar Nagaram' has reached its final stages. The dubbing work of the film, which stars Jai and Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead roles, has officially begun. Announced in 2018, the film was introduced to fans through a teaser in 2023 after years of delay.

Now that dubbing has begun, the team is reportedly working with renewed enthusiasm.

'Karuppar Nagaram' is based on football culture of North Chennai

When the shooting began in 2018, Gopi Nainar had talked about the story of 'Karuppar Nagaram.' The film is based on the story of individuals whose true talents are not valued owing to their identity. The film highlights how a young man living in such an environment goes on to protect himself, therein revealing the football culture prevailing in North Chennai.

For credibility, the film also features real, nationally known football players from the region.

This is being considered a vital feature of the film.

Gopi Nainar’s stalled debut project undergoes revival

Notably, Gopi Nainar had started his first film titled 'Karuppar Nagaram,' which starred 'Kalloori' fame Akhil and Arundhati in the lead roles. But the film was stopped midway, and lawsuits were filed against it, comparing it to the film 'Madras' directed by Pa. Ranjith. After many years, the film was revived with the same name, starring Jai and Aishwarya Rajesh. Along with them, J.D. Chakravarthy, Easwari Rao, Danielle Anne Pope, and Deepa Shankar also play important roles. The film has been made well with the contributions of cinematography by NK Ekambaram, music by KS Prasad, and editing by Gopi Krishna.

'Karuppar Nagaram' nears completion

'Karuppar Nagaram,' which was earlier scheduled to release in February 2024, was delayed due to various reasons. Now that dubbing work has begun, a new release date is likely to be unveiled soon.
