Karur stampede: CBI team visits TVK headquarters in Chennai, seeks details on CCTV footage

A CBI team on Monday (November 3, 2025) visited the headquarters of actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Chennai in connection with the stampede at his rally in Karur on September 27, in which 41 persons were killed.

The party’s joint general secretary C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar told journalists that officers from the CBI visited the party's headquarters in Panaiyur and sought details on the Karur stampede.

“They sought details on the CCTV footage and those who participated in the event. We had already given similar details to the Special Investigation Team (constituted by the Madras High Court and later suspended by the Supreme Court),” he told reporters.

Mr. Kumar explained that the summons from the CBI did not require anyone to appear in person; it was solely to request the necessary information. “We will submit the information within four days,” he stated.

The CBI had taken over the case from the SIT following a Supreme Court order last month.
