Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has stated that the State-run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital in Warangal is under severe stress due to an overload of patients, and demanded that ministers from the erstwhile combined Warangal district, Konda Surekha and Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka), visit the hospital to assess the situation as patients are suffering due to poor services.
As part of her ‘Jagruthi Janambata’ programme, she visited the hospital and interacted with patients on Saturday. She reminded that the State government had begun constructing a state-of-the-art 24-storey multi-super speciality hospital on a 56-acre campus on the Old Central Jail premises at Warangal but the deadline of March 2025 had been missed.
“Due to the increasing patient burden on the existing MGM Hospital, the then BRS government initiated the construction of the new hospital. Unfortunately, the work has almost stopped, resulting in increased pressure on the MGM Hospital,” she said, stressing the need to complete the construction of the hospital.
Kavitha alleged that the State government had not released maintenance charges to the MGM Hospital. She claimed that several patients are being forced to undergo tests at private diagnostic centres, incurring huge expenses, as the hospital lacks the necessary infrastructure for conducting tests.
She blamed both the current Congress and previous BRS governments for the deplorable conditions at the hospital. Kavitha also stated that her tour was not for votes or politics, but to understand people’s issues. “I will release a report on the pressing problems from these five districts,” she added.
Kavitha also visited areas in Warangal and Hanamkonda, interacting with victims of recent flash floods under the GWMC limits.
Terming the situation a “man-made disaster,” Kavitha blamed official negligence and incomplete works for the flooding. She demanded immediate relief, permanent housing for displaced families and accountability from district officials.
She criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for his harsh comments against college managements, describing his tone as “unbecoming of a leader” regarding the release of reimbursement dues.
