BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president K. Kavitha demanded that the government release a White Paper on the ₹2 lakh debt raised by the government since it came to power.

She claimed the government has achieved a milestone in raising debts in a record time, and said it was the responsibility of the government to explain where the funds were utilised.

Addressing the media on Thursday, she said despite raising such huge loans there is no single scheme launched for the previous ones fulfilled. She termed a big lie the government’s claims that the borrowings were being used to pay interest and principle amount of the ₹8 lakh crore debt left over by the BRS regime.

She claimed that the BRS earned an ‘A’ grade from the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) for timely payments but the Congress government has failed to clear dues of ₹1,321 crore.

Ms. Kavitha said the then chief minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao had set 2035 as the deadline to repay loans of the Kaleshwaram project but the Congress government had restructured to be paid till 2040.

The MLC claimed that large-scale corruption by paying advances to favoured contractors was the sole aim of the government rather than paying back the loans. She alleged that ₹1,200 crore has already been paid for Kodangal Lift Irrigation scheme and the contracts were given to MEIL and Raghava Constructions, owned by Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.
