KCOCA invoked in Kodagu for first time to curb organised crime

Madikeri: Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA) has been invoked in three separate cases for the first time in Kodagu to curb organised crime by rowdy-sheeters, SP RN Bindu Mani said on Tuesday.Speaking to reporters, she said the Act has been invoked in two cases at Madikeri Town police station and one case at Kushalnagar Rural police station. “It is for the first time that KCOCA has been invoked in the district to curb organised crime by repeat offenders,” the IPS officer said.She said rowdy-sheeters Pramod and Darshan have been booked under KCOCA and remanded to judicial custody. While Pramod is booked in more than 18 cases, Darshan faces nine cases at Madikeri Town police station.

In Kushalnagar Rural police station limits, Sharif has been booked under KCOCA and is involved in 11 cases, the SP added.Providing details under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, she said a total of 215 people have been booked under the Act till May 31. Police have seized 27kg of marijuana and 46g of other synthetic drugs in these cases.Meanwhile, police conducted two mock drills in the Harangi backwaters as a precaution ahead of the monsoon. She added that 114 vulnerable areas across 14 hoblis have been identified in the district, where field visits have been carried out to establish communication systems and identify alternate routes in case of disasters. The NDRF team is also stationed in the district and is coordinating with other departments, she said.
