Captain Rajveer Singh Chauhan, the pilot who died in the Kedarnath chopper crash on Sunday, was the father of twins born just two months ago, officials said.

His wife is a serving officer in the Indian Army.

Captain Chauhan, who hailed from Jaipur, flew the helicopter that met with an accident on Sunday morning, leading to the death of all those on board.

Seven people, including him, were declared dead as the chopper crashed in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag during its return flight from Kedarnath Shrine.

Chauhan had served in the Indian Army for over 15 years and had vast experience of flying over different terrains, news agency PTI reported.

He was working with Aryan Aviation Private Ltd since October 2024.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Chauhan had served in the Indian Army and had extensive experience flying missions over various terrains, managing aerial operations, and was trained in operating and maintaining different types of helicopters.

Seven people died after a helicopter returning from Kedarnath crashed near Gaurikund in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district on Sunday. The chopper, operated by Aryan Aviation, was headed to Guptkashi with five adults, one infant, and one crew member. It had taken off from Kedarnath at 5:19 am and crashed shortly after.

Officials suspect bad weather caused the crash, and sources said the helicopter flew despite visible poor weather conditions. The wreckage was found in flames in an open field between Gaurikund and Triyuginarayan.
