"I’m a complete water baby. I’m the happiest when I’m by the ocean,” says Nikki Galrani. This World Oceans Day, today, she chats with us about her love for the ocean, her experience scuba diving and snorkelling, the importance of conserving water bodies and more…‘THE LEAST WE CAN DO IS ADOPT SAFETY MEASURES TO SAFEGUARD OUR UNDERWATER WORLD’“When it comes to our ecosystem, oceans play an important role.
Keeping our water bodies clean is absolutely important considering that our existence and well-being are interconnected with them. We should not be littering and ruining others’ natural habitats. Whenever I go to the beach, I see so much plastic and this can damage the underwater world. People throw trash on the seashore, which finds its way to the seabed.
The least we can do is maintain cleanliness and adopt safety measures to safeguard the underwater world.
If you go on a boat, ship, or cruise, just don’t throw things in the water. Even if you are going to the beach, please use the nearest dustbin. It might seem trivial when one person does it, but when a large group of people do it, it makes a difference,” the actress says.‘MY LOVE FOR THE WATER DEVELOPED WHEN I WAS REALLY YOUNG’Ever since I was a child, I loved to swim. I used to swim every day of the summer. My love for the water developed when I was young, and that love grew as I got older. One of my earliest memories of being at a lake was at Sankey Tank in Bangalore.
I used to walk around that lake as a kid. Every Ganesh Chaturthi, we used to immerse the Ganesh idol there. We used to go boating every Sunday in Bengaluru’s Ulsoor Lake.‘I’M ALWAYS UP FOR ANYTHING WATER-RELATED BECAUSE BEING AROUND WATER MAKES ME HAPPY’I have never been seasick because I’m used to swimming from a young age. Being around water makes me happy. I’m always up for anything water-related. I have gone on a lot of boats, but haven’t been on a big cruise yet. It’s on my travel bucket list. Boat rides are fun and refreshing as it is windy and the sea breeze hits your face and hair.
There is nothing blocking your view; it’s just you and the sea. I also love going on a yacht.
I feel a sense of calm when I go to the sea.‘I DID SCUBA DIVING FOR THE FIRST TIME ON MY 30TH BIRTHDAY’I have gone snorkelling in Bali and Thailand, but Maldives is my favourite, especially for its clean beaches and clarity of water. That was also where I did scuba diving for the first time on my 30th birthday. It is a destination where I want to keep going back for snorkelling. I have also heard Hawaii is beautiful, but I’m yet to go explore there.‘ADHI AND I LOVE SNORKELLING TOGETHER AND SEEING WATER WORLD’Every time I get a break, I take off to destinations that are snorkelling friendly. Adhi and I love snorkelling together and seeing the water world. It is so beautiful to go see turtles, corals, and different kinds of fish. Snorkelling is blissful, and scuba diving is a hundred times more blissful because it disconnects you from the world around you and the stress you’re going through. It takes you to a zen mode because it’s just you and the new world that you are exploring underwater.
It’s meditative and therapeutic. I have only done it once and I can’t wait to do it again.Aadhi is a mountain baby, while I love the water’Aadhi is a mountain baby. He loves the hills and I love water. He accompanies me when I want to do water activities and I accompany him when he wants to go to the hills. This way, we get the best of both.
