NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins has shared a written apology for his comments about Anthony Edwards. Perkins had recently upset fans of the Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard by saying that Edwards needs a wife and kids to be considered “the face of the league” in the NBA.

This remark didn’t sit well with many, and the analyst was heavily criticized on social media and beyond.

Kendrick Perkins apologises to Anthony Edwards

Taking to X on Wednesday, Kendrick Perkins wrote, “Anthony Edwards is one my favorite players in the League if not my favorite player. I apologized privately so I’m apologizing publicly to the young (king emoji) for my comments on First Take yesterday. My bad young fella. I was not taking a personal shot at you but I could see how it could have been taken that way.”

While discussing potential NBA players who could be the face of the league on ESPN’s First Take, Perkins said, "You got to check the boxes when you are the face of the league. Yes, we know you have to have the signature shoe, you're going to be in commercials, you are going to have the highlights, you gotta have the game. But you know what else you gotta have? You got to be a role model, right? And things outside the lines matter.

He further added examples of NBA greats with families, saying, “Now, if you go down the list of all the faces of the league in the game. Look at Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, SHAQ, LeBron, Steph. These are all family men... married men with kids."Recently, NBA insider David Samson criticized Perkins for his comments, pointing out that the NBA legends mentioned were not necessarily perfect examples. Also Read: David Samson ripped apart Kendrick Perkins over his 'face of the league' comment on Anthony EdwardsAnthony Edwards, popularly known as ‘Ant-Man’ by fans, is just 23 years old.
