A 62-year-old man in Malom town of Kerala’s Kasaragod district was allegedly bludgeoned by two of his former classmates over a dispute that had occurred among them five decades ago when they were all together in Standard 4.
The two men who thrashed their former classmate were identified as Malothu Balakrishnan and Mathew Valiyaplackkal, while the victim was known as VJ Babu. He was allegedly hit with a stone, according to Manorama.
Babu reportedly lost two of his teeth in the physical assault and received treatment at the Government Medical College in Kannur’s Pariyaram.
According to Vellrikundu Inspector T K Mukundan, the matter would become a case of a non-bailable offence if the teeth were broken as a result of the attack. The accused men were booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for voluntarily causing hurt, among other charges.
What Is The Five-Decade-Old Fight?
Balakrishnan and Valiyaplackkal studied with Babu in Balal Grama Panchayat School more than a decade ago. Babu told the police in a statement that Balakrishnan had beaten him once in Class 4. Despite this incident, the trio continued to maintain friendly relations, Manorama reported.
However, when the three met outside the Janagram Hotel in Malom on Monday, their old argument came up again and led to a fight. During the fight, Balakrishnan held Babu down while Mathew hit him on the face and body with a stone, police said.
Babu said the fight happened because Mathew and Balakrishnan had held a grudge for years, and there might have been alcohol involved.
According to the police, Babu was willing to resolve the conflict outside of the court.
