The Kerala government, taking into consideration the environmental, social and economic impact of the wreckage of the sunk Liberian cargo ship, has declared it a state-specific disaster.

Considering the potentially serious environmental, social and economic impact of the ship’s wreckage, the Kerala government has declared the wreckage of the Liberian cargo vessel, as a state-specific disaster.
The ship MSC ELSA 3, bearing the Liberian flag, capsized and sank in the Arabian Sea, 14.6 nautical miles off the coast of Kerala. Since then, containers from the ship have been drifting ashore at several places along the coast in Alappuzha, Kollam and even Ernakulam, further north.
