Kerala man held in Rs 20 lakh fraud case

Panaji: The cyber crime police on Friday arrested Adharsh K, a 21-year-old Kerala native, for allegedly being involved in a large-scale cyber fraud amounting to more than Rs 20 lakh.Cyber crime superintendent of police Rahul Gupta said an FIR was registered based on a complaint by an individual from Bardez. He said Adharsh and others, with common intention, contacted the complainant through social media and invited him to join a Telegram group to earn profits by performing various tasks mentioned in the group.Further, on the pretext of a high return on investment, they made him deposit an amount of over Rs 20 lakh through different transactions into different bank accounts, thereby cheating him through impersonation using computer resources.“Based on deep analyses, a suspect was identified. A police team proceeded to Thrissur, Kerala, and arrested Adharsh, a resident of Anthikad,” Gupta said. During the investigation, it was discovered that the accused person fraudulently got money to the tune of over Rs 12 lakh deposited into his bank account alone. He was produced before the court and was remanded in police custody.
