Kerala’s first electric bike rental service was launched at the Kozhikode railway station by the Palakkad Division of Southern Railway, marking a major step towards promoting eco-friendly last-mile connectivity for passengers, a press release issued on Wednesday (December 10, 2025) said.

The service, which has received all necessary clearances, allows commuters to rent e-bikes at ₹50 per hour, ₹500 for 12 hours, and ₹750 for 24 hours. According to officials, the contractor has been awarded the State’s first e-bike rental licence, ensuring smooth, regulation-compliant operations. The bikes can be used anywhere in the country, offering passengers greater travel flexibility.

Railway officials said the facility would especially help passengers coming from nearby towns, tourists exploring beaches and markets in Kozhikode, students, professionals, and short-distance travellers who need to make multiple stops without relying on autorickshaws or taxis.

With footfall steadily rising at Kozhikode railway station, the e-bikes are expected to ease mobility within the city, reduce travel expenses, and significantly cut travel time. The initiative also aims to support a cleaner urban ecosystem by promoting zero-emission transport.
