Kerala’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister G.R. Anil has indicated that the price of coconut oil sold through Supplyco may see a further reduction ahead of the Onam festival.

Mr. Anil told mediapersons on Monday (August 18, 2025) that a crucial meeting will be held at the Supplyco headquarters in Kochi on Tuesday to deliberate on potential price cuts.

Presently, Supplyco’s in-house brand, Sabari coconut oil, is being sold at a subsidised rate of ₹349 per litre, while the non-subsidised rate stands at ₹429. Besides, Kera coconut oil, which has a maximum retail price of ₹529, is being sold at a subsidised rate of ₹457. He said that these prices are under review as part of the government’s ongoing market intervention strategy to stabilise essential commodity rates during the festive season.

“We are actively collaborating with genuine producers and distributors to ensure that high-quality coconut oil reaches consumers at the most affordable price,” he said.

Alert on fake oil

The Minister also urged the public to remain cautious about misleading advertisements promoting coconut oil at unusually low prices, such as ₹200 per litre. He warned that such offers could involve substandard or adulterated products.

“Some entities are attempting to market fake coconut oil using deceptive claims. The Health and Food Safety departments have already launched strict action against such malpractices,” he added.
