In Kerala, authorities have taken precautionary measures as heavy rainfall and strong winds continue to affect the region. In response, the Idukki District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, on Wednesday, October 21, 2025.

This closure, however, does not extend to residential institutions, where students stay on campus.

The decision follows a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in Idukki exceeding 204.4 millimetres (mm) on Wednesday. Neighboring districts Palakkad and Malappuram are also under a red alert for the same day.

According to the IMD, Kerala is likely to experience rain and thundershowers until October 26, 2025.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kilometres per hour (kmph) are expected to continue until October 24.Coastal areas along Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep, as well as adjoining sea regions, are likely to face squally weather with wind speeds of 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas during this period.
