Fresh details have emerged in the murder investigation of Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal, with police claiming that his fiancée, Siya Goyal, had reservations about the marriage and was facing pressure from her family to go ahead with it.

According to police sources quoted by ANI, investigators arrived at this conclusion after questioning the accused and examining digital as well as circumstantial evidence. They claimed that Siya wanted more time for herself and was not mentally prepared to get married despite her family’s wishes.

“The accused was apparently not mentally prepared for marriage and was under pressure from her family to accept the proposal," a senior police official told ANI.

Investigators also alleged that although Siya had developed feelings for co-accused Chetan Chaudhary, she was not ready to marry him either. Police suspect that she intended to continue her relationship with Chaudhary while allegedly plotting Ketan Agarwal’s murder.

The investigation further revealed that Siya and Chaudhary first crossed paths at a Diwali party last year, after which they gradually became close.

Ketan, 26, died after plunging into a gorge at Lohagad Fort near Pune on June 18. At first, the incident was treated as an accidental fall after Siya informed his family that he had slipped during a trek. The investigation has since taken a dramatic turn, with police alleging that Siya, 20, and her alleged lover, 22-year-old Chetan Chaudhary, deliberately pushed him into the gorge.

Investigators said a review of CCTV footage from Lohagad Fort proved to be a turning point in the case. Cameras captured a man in a hooded sweatshirt trailing Ketan and Siya from some distance. Officers later identified him as Chaudhary and found his clothing unusual, noting that he was wearing a hoodie even though the temperature was around 33 degrees Celsius.

“While investigating the case, we stumbled upon certain circumstances surrounding the incident that raised suspicion and prompted a deeper probe. We checked CCTV cameras installed at the ticket counter of the fort, where we spotted Ketan and Siya walking together," a police officer involved in the investigation said.

“The man was wearing shorts and a hoodie. The front part of the hoodie was pulled so low that his face could not be seen. Additionally, the man was wearing a headset over the hoodie. In another footage clip, we noticed Siya suddenly looking back and, at the same time, the man in the hoodie suddenly sitting down," the officer added.

As the investigation progressed, police said Ketan’s relatives disclosed that Siya had previously expressed doubts about the marriage. She had even enquired whether the wedding could be postponed by a year.

The couple had got engaged in February and were set to tie the knot in November at a palace in Udaipur. Police further alleged that Siya repeatedly persuaded Ketan to accompany her to Lohagad Fort in the weeks leading up to his death.

According to investigators, the pair visited the fort on May 31 before returning on June 4, June 14 and finally June 18. Officers also claim that an earlier attempt to kill Ketan on June 14 was unsuccessful after he managed to cling to a bush when he was allegedly pushed from a cliff.
