Kerala Fiber Optic Network Ltd (KFON), the Kerala government’s broadband internet service, will launch OTT services through the network this week with an initial offering of 29 OTT platforms and 350 digital channels. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will launch KFON’s OTT services at a function to be held at the Nishagandhi auditorium in the capital on August 21.
According to sources, KFON users who subscribe to the service will get access to major OTT platforms including Sony Liv, Jio Hotstar, Amazon Prime Lite, Zee5, FanCode, Discovery+, Hungama TV, Playbox TV, among others. They will also be able to watch a wide array of digital channels along with it. Santhosh Babu, managing director of KFON, said that KFON packages bundled with the OTT services will be available to subscribers at affordable rates. Mr. Vijayan will announce the tariff details of the OTT inclusive packages at the launch event.
Across the State, the total Internet connections through KFON now stand at 1.15 lakh, with a total of 74,203 home connections, 23,163 connections to government offices, 14,194 connections to below poverty line families, 3,044 enterprise connections, 10 darkfiber connections and 15 connections for special events.
Currently, KFON is providing fibre and Wi-Fi internet services only. Adding more services is expected to attract more customers. The current plan is to provide a bouquet of services, of which the OTT packages will be a component. It will be offered as a separate package for KFON’s existing subscriber base.
The official launch will be followed by a musical performance by playback singer and music composer Sooraj Santhosh and his team. Those interested can obtain free entry passes by registering through the official website of KFON at www.kfon.in.
