The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) has taken exception to the State government’s total neglect of legitimate demands raised by doctors, even when a host of populist measures aimed at pleasing various sections of society were announced by the government on Wednesday (October 29, 2025).
In a statement here, KGMCTA warned that the government’s dismissive attitude towards the long-standing demands of medical college teachers, as was evident from the government’s failure to discuss the issue at the Cabinet meeting has not gone down well with doctors.
KGMCTA said that despite their persistent demands, the government has continued to neglect the discrepancies in pay revision for entry-level posts of medical college faculty (that of Assistant Professor), resulting in newly qualified doctors leaving the medical education service in droves to find placements in the private sector. It also raised the issue of non-payment of pending salary arrears since 2016 and the need to create new posts in newly established medical colleges.
KGMCTA said that nothing was done about the four years of pay revision arrears due to doctors, even as the government happily announced the full settlement of pay revision arrears for those in State government service.
KGMCTA had earlier recommended that new posts be created before starting new medical colleges in districts such as Kasaragod and Wayanad. The government’s earlier assurance that posts will be sanctioned immediately after receiving NMC approval has proved to be worthless as even after four Cabinet meetings, the matter was not taken up by the government, KGMCTA said
KGMCTA said that it has been engaged in a passive protest highlighting the genuine demands of doctors. But now that the government has made its apathy towards the apolitical demands of doctors very clear, it will soon convene its central executive committee to take the decision about going on indefinite strike.
