The nine-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival drew to a close on Saturday (September 6, 2025) as the procession of the 69-ft tall Khairatabad Ganesh idol began its journey to the Hussain Sagar lake in the heart of Hyderabad. At 7.44 a.m. a loud Ganesh Maharaj Ki Jai chorus went out as the vehicle carrying the idol moved from the installation site.

A sea of devotees surged at the festive sit to catch a glimpse of the idol before it is immersed. A huge deployment of police personnel and volunteers spread out along the 2.5 km procession route to Hussain Sagar to ease traffic congestion and maintain order along the way. The procession is scheduled to reach the immersion site at about 1.30 p.m.

About 50,000 idols are set to be immersed in the Hussain Sagar alone, while the citywide immersion processions are likely to stretch over 40 hours. Nearly 29,000 police personnel will be deployed in shifts, supported by drone surveillance and 250 additional CCTV cameras installed at key junctions.
