As the Gaza-bound humanitarian aid vessel with Greta Thunberg onboard was intercepted by the Israeli forces on Monday, the pro-Palestinian Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), which operated the ship, posted a pre-recorded “SOS" video of the Swedish climate activist on X.
The British-flagged vessel Madleen was redirected to a port in Israel.
“SOS! the volunteers on ‘Madleen’ have been kidnapped by Israeli forces. Greta Thunberg is a Swedish citizen. Pressure their foreign ministries and help us keep them safe!" the caption on the post read.
In the video, Thunberg said, “My name is Greta Thunberg and I am from Sweden. If you see this video, we have been intercepted and kidnapped in international waters by the Israeli occupational forces, or forces that support Israel. I urge all my friends, family and comrades to put pressure on the Swedish government to release me and the others as soon as possible."
According to the FFC, the Israeli forces boarded the boat at night before it could reach its destination to deliver aid in Gaza.
“The ‘selfie yacht’ of the ‘celebrities’ is safely making its way to the shores of Israel. The passengers are expected to return to their home countries," Israeli Foreign Ministry said on X.
The Ministry informed that the passengers were taken care of and were provided with refreshments.
“They were provided with sandwiches and water. The show is over," it said.

Among the 12 on board the ship, Thunberg and French member of the European Parliament, Rima Hassan, were the notable figures.
“The crew of the Freedom Flotilla was arrested by the Israeli army in international waters around 2 a.m." Hassan said on X.
The yacht was carrying a small amount of humanitarian aid, such as rice and baby formula, meant for Gaza. The Foreign Ministry stated that whatever little aid remained — and wasn’t used by the “celebrities" onboard — would be sent to Gaza through proper humanitarian channels.
