The Tamil Nadu govt on Wednesday (June 18, 2025) informed the Supreme Court that Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) H.M. Jayaram was released Tuesday (June 17, 2025) evening after being arrested on Madras High Court’s direction.
The top court had questioned the Tamil Nadu government on the suspension of Mr. Jayaram, who was arrested after the High Court’s directive in kidnapping case. The top court also asked the State government to apprise it over revoking of the suspension order passed against Mr. Jayaram.
“He is a senior police officer. These kinds of orders are shocking and demoralising,” the Supreme Court noted.
Mr. Jayaram was taken into police custody on Monday (June 16, 2025), minutes after the direction of the Madras High Court in an abduction case in which Kilvaithinakuppam (Reserved) MLA ‘Poovai’ M. Jagan Moorthy is also a suspect.
The court directed Tiruvallur district police to take action in accordance with law against the ADGP after the police made a startling revelation that he was one of the suspects in the case. Mr. Jayaram is a 1996-batch IPS officer.
