Kim Ji-sun's son, SIVAA (real name Kim Jeong-hoon), has courageously shared his battle with severe social anxiety disorder and the prejudice he faces due to his unconventional appearance.
In a heartfelt social media message, he thanked fans for their support while explaining the challenges of growing up in the spotlight as a comedian's son. Despite his anxiety, which requires him to medicate before performances or crowded events, music is his sanctuary, helping him to connect authentically with the world. Yonhap News reported his story recently.
Piercings as Self-Expression and a Shield
SIVAA's face is adorned with 17 piercings-a striking look that sparks curiosity and judgment alike.
Yet, his mother humorously revealed that her son constantly seeks advice on adding more piercings, a symbol of his desire to express himself freely despite societal prejudice. SIVAA explained that beyond the appearance, his music and life story reflect deep sincerity, urging people to look past stereotypes and appreciate his inner self.
Battling Anxiety with Art
SIVAA is not yet 20 years old but has already embarked on a career as a rapper.
He acknowledges that while many peers attend university, he faces the intimidating scrutiny of public life, which feeds his social anxiety. Medication helps him cope, but his time on stage is where he feels genuinely alive. His journey paints a raw portrait of youth struggling against mental health stigma and societal expectations.
The Struggle with Prejudice and Acceptance
Growing up as the son of a well-known entertainer, SIVAA once hid his connection to Kim Ji-sun to avoid criticism that might affect his mother. His openness now marks a significant step toward breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and alternative lifestyles in Korean society, which still often clings to traditional values and norms.
