Participation in sports is essential for both physical and mental well-being, said Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC) chairman Arun Kumar Patil while inaugurating the corporation’s two-day annual sports meet in Kalaburagi on Wednesday.

Speaking after receiving the sports torch and salute from participants at the Chandrashekhar Patil Stadium, Mr. Patil said that the event marks the silver jubilee of KKRTC, which has completed 25 years of service since its inception.

He urged employees to make sports an integral part of their lives to stay healthy and motivated. The inauguration was symbolically marked by releasing balloons into the air.

Managing director B. Sushila presented the introductory remarks, highlighting the 25-year journey of KKRTC and its contribution to regional transport development. City Police Commissioner Sharanappa S.D. lauded the dedication and efficiency of transport staff in maintaining uninterrupted services.

The two-day event includes 100m and 200m races for men and women, 200m speed walking for participants above 50 years, as well as throwball and shot put competitions.

Employees from nine divisions – Ballari, Hosapete, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, Bidar, and Kalaburagi Division 1 and 2 – are taking part in the meet.

Corporation officers, employees, and sportspersons from various divisions attended the event, which aims to promote team spirit and a culture of fitness among transport staff.

Basavaraj Belagavi, chairman of the Sports and Cultural Committee, administered the sports oath to participants. Chief Labour and Welfare Officer G. S. Pulekar, pharmacologist Veerabhadrappa Arakeri and others were present.
