KL University’s Skill Palaver Hackathon expands experiential learning in 2025–26

KL Deemed to be University, through its Skill Development Division, has successfully conducted the third phase of “Skill Palaver”, a structured, project-based learning hackathon initiative spanning both semesters of the academic year 2025–26.

The programme is designed for pre-final year students of all engineering branches, along with BCA and MCA programmes, to enhance students’ industry preparedness by emphasising experiential learning and measurable outcome-driven competencies.Skill Palaver systematically embeds domain-focused hackathons into the framework of professional electives and industry-oriented skill courses through a well-defined three-phase model, implemented as follows during the academic year 2025–26.

Phase I – Learnathon (Odd Semester 2025–26): Interactive expert-led sessions were conducted across three structured slots during the odd semester. Students were exposed to real-world problem statements, emerging technology trends, solution frameworks, and development strategies across multiple domains.Phase II – Internal Review (Even Semester 2025–26): In the second phase, student teams presented their preliminary designs, methodologies, and proof-of-concept developments for structured internal evaluation by domain mentors, ensuring academic integration and performance benchmarking.Phase III – Hackathon Review (Even Semester 2025–26): The final phase is scheduled in two slots on 21st and 28th February 2026.On 21st to 22nd February 2026, the first slot of the third phase was successfully conducted, where student teams presented fully developed prototypes and implementation strategies before industry experts for comprehensive evaluation, technical validation, and feedback. These hackathon activities span high-impact domains, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, data analytics, cybersecurity, software engineering, game design, embedded systems, design & analysis, and structural engineering, ensuring multidisciplinary participation.

The initiative is convened under the leadership of Dr. V. Rajesh, Principal, College of Engineering. The programme is guided by Dr. A. Srinath, Dean – Skill Development, along with departmental heads and domain SPOCs. The event is conducted under the guidance of Dr. G.P.S. Varma, Vice Chancellor, and Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Venkatram.
